Eva Voorhees

How old were you when you started modeling? Eighteen Where are you from? Los Angeles, CA What languages do you speak? English How did your family feel about you wanting to be a model?  Did they instill a certain moral code or value within you?  Were they supportive? My beliefs and ethics were instinctive. I was not blessed with a strong family support system. Everything I do, and the way I react to the world and situations is self-taught.  Who discovered you?  Or did you send pictures into an agency? I went to Nina Blanchard’s agency in LA and she signed me then and there.  Who was your 1st agency or mother agency, agencies around the world  and last agency? Nina Blanchard was my first agency, who was the sister agency of Fords then. I’ve been with a few smaller agencies throughout my career, but I’d still say Fords is my mother agency-it’s certainly where my loyalties lie.   Did you ever pay for pictures? On a few occasions if an agent wanted current shots of me I had some test pictures taken, but not very often.  Did you attend a modeling school/scouting convention or television contest like star search? No, never.  Models didn’t get their start on national television when my career began. Our agents were responsible for introducing us to the business and getting us exposure.  What would you recommend or suggest to a potential model/new face? I would recommend a great number of things, which is why I’m starting a consulting business for new models. I can educate models to be more aware of the infinite hazards in the business-especially when starting out. But for the sake of this interview, I would highly recommend having someone they trust implicitly to oversee their careers-especially contractual agreements.  Who are or were some of your favorite photographers? Did one tend to book you over and over? Yes, Albert Watson was my absolute favorite and I worked with him for many years. I also loved working with Eric Boman, Rico Puhlmann, Patrick Demarchelier, Chris von Wagenheim, Dennis Piel, Avedon, Horst, Penn, Gordon Munro, Renato Grignaschi, Michael Doster, Deborah Tuberville, James Moore, Stan Malinowski.   Do you have an idol/hero (famous model/designer, etc.)? My hero/idol is Johnny Depp.  Which magazines to you tend to pick up 1st.? (Even if its not fashion related). I don’t read magazines--I honestly don’t have any interest in celebrity gossip, and even fashion magazines are littered with actors. When I read anything it’s usually news events online. Did you use your modeling or spokesperson position to support a cause, which one,  do you do any charity work, etc.? I’ve independently been a crusader for animals all my life. If I joined forces it would be for animals or children’s issues. I did volunteer work for orphans and abandoned animals in Mexico for years.  Did you have a separate agency or manager for Television and Film? No, I don’t do either.  When you were modeling full time, did you starve to stay thin?  Was staying thin an issue for you? No, I’ve always been thin. Genetically, I’m fortunate to have come from a family that never had weight issues. I also have a very high metabolism.  How often do you exercise? Ideally, I run every other day, but I don’t always have the time. That’s my favorite form of exercise, and I have been running for 20 years.  Do you eat what you want or do you diet, etc.?   I never diet. I’ve just never been a big eater. It’s inconceivable to some people that I just don’t have that much interest in food.  What is your favorite snack, if you indulge? Probably potato chips, if I having a craving for something salty.  What was one of your favorite cities to work in? I always loved getting bookings in LA since it meant a trip home. Other than that, it would be London, one of my favorite cities in the world.  What are a few of your favorite beauty products? Like what’s in your purse right now, that you can't be with out?A light and natural, unscented moisturizer and Burt’s Bees lip balm.  What designer clothes fit you the best?  like. . . which jeans, dresses you tend to search out first or end up flattering you best after trying on everything else? Donna Karan has always been a favorite of mine. Her clothes are always classic and never go out of style. And after all else, I prefer vintage men’s clothes. Modeling can lead to acting?  Was that your desire? I never had any desire to act.  If you are a reader, whom are some of your favorite authors? Shakespeare is my absolute favorite. And I have a quote from Johnny Depp that I live by.  and  can you give us some of your favorite quotes? All but the last are Shakespeare’s quotes. (I could quote Shakespeare all day, so these are only a few).  This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.~Shakespeare "Love all, trust a few. Do wrong to none."~Shakespeare "Thy words, I grant are bigger, for I wear not, my dagger in my mouth."~Shakespeare Everyone ought to bear patiently the results of his own conduct.~Shakespeare And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything.~Shakespeare “Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”~Shakespeare While thou livest keep a good tongue in thy head.~Shakespeare And something people only speak of but rarely live according to: "Don't give a shit what anybody thinks, just keep moving forward and do what you have to do-for you." ~Johnny Depp I believe wholeheartedly that no matter how difficult the obstacles, and they are great and frequent, we need to do what is best for us-just move forward. I love that quote!  I see that you have a strong fan base for your page supermodels of the 70's 80's on Face Book, and a web site. Can you say a little about how that got started/purpose, etc.  The supermodelsofthe70s-80s.org Facebook fan page was always meant to be a fan page for my real work: www.supermodelicons.com Last year I decided to make a tasteful site to showcase the work of some of the icons in fashion history. I wanted it to be more than a site with pretty images; I wanted to provide a platform for models of all eras to discuss their careers, interests and current work. There are bios, videos, links, interviews, etc., and the site was designed to be infinitely expandable.  There are a staggering number of models that deserve tribute, and a dozen models are currently being added to SMI. Currently, I’m limiting the site to models until I feel I have enough data to add the artistry of photographers and other talent.
